Hi everyone, firstly, I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who came along to, helped with, and enjoyed Meadvale Village Fete last Saturday. We are privileged to be able to put on this event every year for our community and we hope you had a fun time.
Today is the 90th anniversary of the 34th Reigate (Meadvale) Scout Group. 90 years is a long time, but our group has predecessor groups (which merged together) that have been around since the early 1910s.
16th Reigate Scout Group started in Meadvale Hall in 1913, with 34th (St Johns Boy's School) starting in 1930, before they merged together as 34th Reigate (Meadvale) Scout Group in 1935, and continuing to meet in Meadvale. We built our Scout Hut behind the hall ourselves in the early 1950s and have occupied that land ever since. We feel firmly established in Meadvale; it's our home.
Well over 100 years, along with the 90th anniversary of the group by this name, feels like a big milestone and we're happy to have been part of the community for so long.
We wanted to update you on our goal of saving Meadvale Village Hall for our community going forward. I know we've been quiet recently - talks and negotiations have been difficult - but it was nice to catch up with some of you to talk it through on Saturday.
We are still hoping to save Meadvale Village Hall for community use going forward. We care passionately about this community; Meadvale is our home; both as an organisation and for many of us as volunteers who contribute. We hope to be a part of the community for many years to come.
We are still in negotiation with St John's Church about the opportunity to purchase the Hall and Scout Hut.
We have additionally nominated the hall and Scout Hut as an Asset of Community Value because we believe that the Scout Hut and the Village Hall are both of value to our Meadvale community.
Finally, we've added two trustees from the local community to our group, Robin Sundt and Harry Scotton, whose role with us is to focus on the Village Hall and how it can continue to be used for the community in future.
We await the Church's response to our offer so we will have a firm target for the remaining fundraising we need and are able to proceed, and we look forward to continuing to work with St John's and the diocese collaboratively towards a good outcome for the community.
